Back in September we began our ‘Smiles for Miles’ challenge.

The idea was for riders to log their cycle journey mileage throughout the Autumn months of September, October and November to see who could rack up the most miles. The idea was to give riders an idea of how much exercise they were achieving, provide a little competition between riders and an incentive to keep riding during our bleaker months.

We had several riders inputting their mileage at the end of November and it proved to be impressive figures; considering the weather was wet, windy and wild at times our cyclists still got out to our led rides. The camaraderie, friendship and support that these groups offer are a real help to keep you motivated, staying involved and maintaining that vital social and physical interaction that we all need.

Although all of the totals ridden were truly impressive and huge congratulations are richly deserved to those that continued to ride, our deserving winner was Chris Smith!

Chris clocked up a mind blowing 887 miles over the 3 months, attending at least two led rides a week but the added mileage came from pedaling to the ride, completing the ride, then if that wasn’t enough, riding home again.

For her sterling effort, Chris will become the proud new owner of a new track pump, to help keep her tyres pumped up and rolling well right into spring. Well done Chris.
