Southport Liveable Neighbourhood

Liveable Neighbourhoods are healthier, happier, cleaner places to live, learn, work and play. Sefton Council want to create a Liveable Neighbourhood in Southport to make the streets more pleasant, active and people friendly. Additionally The project aims to create an area where it is possible, and enjoyable, to make short trips without the use of a car. The project area spans from Lord Street in the West to Cemetery Road in the East and links to the wider walking and cycling network.

Sustrans will be working with local people over the coming months to create a unique design for the project area. School children from eight schools in the area are also surveying their own streets and contributing ideas through activities and workshops. The community also have a chance to comment via surveys through the post or on the phone.

Getting involved

Local people understand the area best. We want everyone to get involved who lives, works, learns and plays in Southport.

All properties in the project area will receive a mail out about the project and a survey through the post over the next couple of weeks.

Sefton Council have been looking into what can be done to make the streets better for people walking and cycling in the Portland Street area for quite some time. The project area is therefore based on a 10 minute walk across this area, with 5 minute walks or less to key services and facilities such as those on Shakespeare Street. Working together we can create street designs that improve the look and feel of your streets and make short journeys by foot, wheelchair, scooter and bicycle easier and safer for everyone. Your expert local knowledge is essential in helping to identify the issues you face and your ideas and solutions for the area.
