Last week we made a return visit to Arriva on Hawthorne Road in Bootle, where we delivered a cycling promotion session involving our two bike computrainer system.
The computrainer consists of bikes placed in turbo trainer stands, which are then connected to a laptop, running the computrainer programme. Riders can then either compete against each other or the clock to set the fastest time over a set course. It doesn’t all have to be competitive though, riders can equally take part just by riding the course in their own time. A multitude of courses can be selected from the programme to suit the participants and the time available, for Arriva we used the 1 mile intermediate course which involved a couple of hills to test the riders; the computrainer can also provide information such as heart rate, calories burnt and average and maximum speed.
During our three hour engagement we delivered sessions to 12 members of staff, delivering a session on the computrainer and discussing ideas and passing on information about cycling opportunities in Sefton. We also planned a further visit to the site for January when we will deliver a number Dr Bike sessions over a couple of days, again this service is completely free of charge and available to any business within Sefton.
